Tips

The latest device drivers and instructions should be used. Refer to the ServerGuide Diskette Factory (provided with the server) or to check for updates after your server was shipped, access the IBM Web site at http://www.pc.ibm.com/us [This URL is not hot-linked. All the others are.] (select Servers, then Server Support, then 3500 Family, then Downloadable Files).

The Adaptec 7800 Family Manager diskette must be used to install the on board on-board SCSI controller, which has a new chip set chipset and requires a special driver. During NT installation, after NT has detected mass storage devices, press "S" to specify additional mass storage devices and then choose "Other" to install the SCSI controller drivers. The Adaptec 7800 Family Manager is also found in the ServerGuide Diskette Factory. Check the IBM Web site (above) to insure ensure ["insure" means to make sure, financially. "ensure" just means to make sure.] that you have the latest version.

Check FTP site at www.networking.ibm.com [Should this be hot-linked?] for latest adapter software updates.

Minimum Hard Disk Drive capacity required for operating system and utilities is 200 MB.

Test Environment

Hardware Setup: configuration defaults used for server and clients.
Product installed on NTFS partition
Optional Token Ring Adapter ran run at 16 Mbps:
Tested in Slot 1
IRQ:56 (reported by NT)
I/O range 7800-78FF
MS Internet Explorer 4.0 was running concurrently on the server.
Clients (used in testing):

In-house tool on 1 Physical Client to simulate 80 users.
Test Results:

No special steps were necessary to install or run on the Netfinity 3500.
All functional and performance objectives were met for the system under test.
Testing stressed primarily the Network (LAN) resources.
Tuning was not required to maximize performance.
Estimated CPU utilization under maximum user loads was less than 25%-40%.

ServerProven

ServerProven is based on a simple idea: make sure that everything customers are likely to use- [Use this code instead: "words_before_em_dash —  words_after_em_dash" and you'll get a space before and after the em dash. This non-breaking space will always carry the word before the dash and the dash along with it, so you'll have the dash following the word whether the word falls at the end of the line or not. Same logic applies when using slashes with spaces around them.] along with their IBM Netfinity server— [As above.] is thoroughly tested. This includes non-IBM hardware devices and components, operating systems, middleware, and popular application packages.

The IBM Netfinity ServerProven program gives commercial software and hardware developers the opportunity to test their business solutions on Netfinity servers in real-world environments, reducing integration risks and enabling smoother installations and reliable implementations.

What this means is that you don't have to worry about IBM and other companies' products working together - [Code here is inconsistent with code used above. Spaces appear around the dash here.] they just do. And that can help you lower your cost of doing business.

The Netfinity 7000 M10 delivers record-shattering performance with the IBM IBM's system architecture and Intel's new 400MHz Pentium II Xeon processor. Four-way SMP, up to 1MB L2 cache, the combination of PCI adapter slots, 64-bit PCI, 8-way interleaved ECC EDO memory, and 10,000 rpm disk drives beef up the power of the subsystems. The result is a taut, balanced system with a hunger for speed. [This phrase unfortunately implies that the system is slow; that it "wants" to be fast, but isn't. Try "unrivaled speed."]

Your enterprise server represents is a significant investment for your business. In return, you expect super power, maximum control, and the highest availability to run your demanding business-critical applications. [Insert] The IBM Netfinity 7000 delivers all of that in one of the sleekest, most purposeful servers ["sleekest" refers more to looks and/or form factor, rather than to capability. The word does connote speed and compactness, however. Perhaps this should be "a sleek rack-mount system." "purposeful," on the other hand, means that the machine itself "feels" that it has purpose, and acts on its own initiative, with a conscious sense of that purpose. ("2001: A Self-Fulfilling Odyssey"? :-)) The machine is not "purposeful," it's "all-purpose" or "multi-purpose." Or perhaps "versatile." So the revision would read "one of the sleekest, most versatile rack-mount servers"] on the market, all [Delete "all." Redundant -- the beginning of the sentence is "The IBM Netfinity 7000 delivers all of that . . ."] backed by the world-class service and support you expect from IBM.
